You can optimise every image and still have a slow website if it sits on the wrong server. Hosting is the least glamorous technology decision you will make and one of the most consequential.

The options, plainly

Shared hosting

Cheapest, and your site shares a machine with hundreds of others. Fine for a small brochure site with modest traffic; the first thing to buckle during a campaign or a festive rush.

VPS

A guaranteed slice of a server. Noticeably more consistent, requires some management, and a sensible step up for a growing business site or small store.

Cloud hosting

Resources scale with demand, so a traffic spike costs money rather than uptime. Now affordable enough that most serious business sites should start here.

Managed hosting

Cloud plus someone else handling updates, security and backups. You pay more and think about it less — usually the right trade for a business without technical staff.

Add a CDN regardless

A content delivery network caches your site at locations around the world, so a visitor in Warangal, Bengaluru or Dubai is served from somewhere near them. This is often the single biggest speed improvement available, and entry-level plans are free.

What to check before you buy

  • Server location — an India or Singapore region for a mostly Indian audience
  • Uptime guarantee, in writing
  • Daily automatic backups included
  • Free SSL and easy renewal
  • Real support that answers at Indian business hours
  • Room to upgrade without migrating everything

A note on price

The difference between bad and good hosting for a small business is usually a few hundred rupees a month. Set against lost leads from a slow or down website, it is the easiest spend to justify.
